Giving Thanks

As we pause for Thanksgiving, we at Hummer Mower Associates (HMA) are thankful for the partnership with you, our clients – spanning five generations – to make our new practice a reality.

I, along with my partners at HMA, are grateful to be in our first year as the Newest Old Firm in Chicago. It has been 87 years since my father and his associates started Wayne Hummer & Co. in 1931, which differed from the Wall Street model of the time by offering unbiased personal service to investors instead of selling securities to them. HMA is proud to rekindle that independent spirit with the talent and technology of today.

I was fortunate to begin my business career in 1956 with a group of self-reliant and hardworking men and women including my father and brother Bill. There were many challenges over the years, but we never wavered in our principles. Today, we continue that legacy with a team that is dedicated, skilled and tested. Becky Parr has kept me on course for 30 years and worked closely with our families providing invaluable client service. Grove Mower – married to my middle daughter Brooke – has worked in the investment business for 36 years, the past 20 with me, and now assumes the mantle of running our team. His son, Chapin – fourth generation Hummer – handles our digital marketing, strategy and content. For twenty-five years David Cox managed many of our client portfolios and now continues in that role at HMA, as was well as serving as our Chief Investment Officer. Ryan Ross has been with us since college and is in his eleventh year managing clients and portfolios as well as spearheading our financial planning effort. A strong group for sure; focused, team-driven and attuned to you – the most important part of our business.

We welcome you to visit us in our new office at 321 N. Clark in the River North neighborhood and see our vision of what a wealth management team should be today and tomorrow – for you, your children and grandchildren. To all: a happy Thanksgiving and my sincere appreciation for our longstanding friendships and gratitude for decades of doing business together.
