Investors are receiving several mixed signals in the financial markets as we enter the last quarter of the year. Positives include a robust US economy, strong earnings growth, positive earnings guidance, low unemployment, small business confidence, and still reasonable inflation. Negative signals are centered around potential trade wars, a flattening yield curve, higher equity valuations, dysfunction in Washington, and elevated debt levels. With those prevailing cross currents, we are pleased to have HighTower as a strategic partner in navigating through these uncertain waters.
Founded in 2008, in the aftermath of the financial crisis, HighTower supports 90 investment advisory practices, similar to us, that oversee over $50 billion in client assets (they were recently ranked as the 11th largest money manager in Chicago). In addition to providing back office support to us, including technology and compliance/regulatory supervision, our partnership with HighTower also brings HMA a significant enhancement in investment management resources.
HighTower delivers to HMA a wide variety of research and investment solutions that are free of the conflicts of interest often seen at many large investment firms and banks. The robust research offering includes access to virtually all major investment banks as well as several independent providers. In addition, HighTower provides portfolio construction guidance and strategy, outside manager and fund due diligence, and a dedicated fixed income trading desk. Finally, our affiliation with HighTower brings us a collaborative network of advisor teams that promotes a sharing of ideas and solutions for clients. Having access to multiple viewpoints allows us to make more informed recommendations and decisions in client portfolios.
