Two Years at HMA

February 16th marks the second year that six enterprising individuals started in business as Hummer Mower Associates. This anniversary reminds me that on a February day in 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression, my father and a few colleagues opened for business a Chicago partnership named Wayne Hummer & Co. Although 89 years apart in origin amid vast changes in the U. S. economy, we follow the same guiding principles: independence from the Wall Street model and dedication to the client’s interests.
In 2001, the Wayne Hummer firm was absorbed into Wintrust Bank. Since then, it has successfully expanded its location and advisers in the bank branches. By 2017, my team felt the time was right for us to form our own independent minded advisory firm where we could entirely focus on client interests apart from a corporate employer’s priorities.
We chose to locate our new office on the tenth floor of 321 N. Clark St, on the north bank of the Chicago River.
The move was seamless, thanks to the support of HighTower which provides its member teams access to investment research, compliance needs and the latest technology. We selected Charles Schwab, which has $2 trillion in assets, to be the custodian for our client accounts.
We feel fortunate in our ability to take advantage of the great strides in technology experienced in the financial industry over the years. While embracing these improvements, we adhere to the same values our predecessors held then: help families develop strategies to fulfill their goals and invest in carefully selected securities as long-term investments.
Our greatest asset is the confidence of our clients. Our enjoyment is working for their continued success.
